About SoundCheckTools

SoundCheckTools builds fast, privacy-first sound measurement tools that run entirely in your web browser. The first tool is a free online decibel meter that measures estimated sound levels with your microphone.

What we believe

• The tool is the product. Everything on this site exists to help you measure or understand sound — quickly, on any device, without installing anything.
• Privacy by design. Audio is analyzed locally in your browser and never recorded or uploaded. See the privacy policy for details.
• Honest accuracy. Browser microphones are not calibrated instruments. We always label readings as estimates and explain how the measurement works and where its limits are.

How it works

The decibel meter uses your browser's microphone access together with the Web Audio API to analyze the incoming sound signal in real time — entirely on your device. The audio signal is used to compute a level and is then discarded immediately.
